Brokoli: The Green Manifesto

Global warming is a hyperobject — a phenomenon so vast that it’s beyond human comprehension. But how do we solve something we can’t even fully understand?

If we are to solve it, climate action must be a collective decision. Oxford economist Michael Bacharach suggested: people are more likely to cooperate if they are part of the decision making. In that sense society can be thought of as a team, where we ask: “What should we do?” and find a collective solution.

That is why DAOs work — people feel responsible for the choices they make and execute the plan together. We think that DAOs are the only way we have a chance against hyperobjects.

Some may say: if the others are going to cooperate to solve the climate crisis, then your contribution won’t be needed; and if the others aren’t going to cooperate, then your contribution won’t do any good alone. Darwinists may say putting me ahead of everyone else is part of our nature and how our genes survive.

Well, yes and no. This short-term thinking might make your genes survive a few more generations, but ultimately you are choosing to ignore a problem that may end humanity as we know it. What is survival of the fittest if nobody survives 100 more years on this planet?

This is exactly why we call global warming a hyperobject: our nature is incapable of understanding the consequences of our actions as it relates to this problem. It’s indeed the first hyperobject we have faced as a modern society, but definitely not the last. If we, as a group, come together and collectively solve this problem, this will be a historic moment that future generations will remember and cherish. It will also inspire future generations to unite and solve any future hyperobjects.

But why aren’t people doing more? Well, it has to do with human psychology. People will procrastinate and avoid — unless it is causing major discomfort in their lives. And global warming will not start causing major discomfort until we are way past the point where we can still do something about it. So what can we do?

People tend to have big ideas — 87% of Gen Zers and 70% of millennials are concerned about the environment. However, when words need action, there’s a disconnect.

That’s why we created a solution seamlessly entering your daily routine. In fact, you won’t feel any change, but you will be making change.

With Brokoli, you get the same DEX with the same fees, the same dApps and other solutions related to your everyday DeFi. But instead of making us profits, your fees will go towards decentralised climate offsets. With that, the transition to Brokoli becomes a no-brainer.

When creating a new medium of finance where everything is decentralised, we have to start right. Yes, some old industries may never change their ways, but we are building something new from scratch: DeFi is being constructed as you’re reading this. We still have a chance to make it right.

Brokoli is bringing the power to the people to offset their impeact and solve the climate problem. Not just by becoming carbon neutral, but becoming climate positive. Because we are not trying to stop the problem from getting worse — we are trying to eliminate the problem altogether.
